Are you a good blogger? Or are you just safe to work with?

As I go into my third year of blogging professionally I have seen quite a change in the way I see people writing, posting, and creating content. Ever since the pandemic, with all the movements we saw like BLM, and protests it appears that most modern brands want you to believe that they're in fact inclusive. Many of these same brands whom worked with diverse creators during the height of the pandemic have gone silent during the turning years.

Moving towards more safe creatives whom are not dark skinned. Why is this? Perhaps they don not want to lose the 51% or so base of Americans that seem not to favor a certain hue. It drives me mad, especially when I see bloggers in the Seattle area, whom are not even living in Seattle claim they're from here. Also exclaiming how easy it is to be a creator of color. I will be the first to say it. If you're light skinned and or not dark, brands will definitely see you as safe. So you cannot be out here comparing yourself to other creatives. They DO NOT receive the same offers as light skinned bloggers.

I know this for a fact as being in direct communication to major brands and seeing the stark contrast of monetary compensation. Especially when the darker skinned creative has double the engagement and following than the lighter skinned creative. Its disgusting and it has to be stopped.

I have worked with many brands. From Nordstrom, to Coach. Not all are the same. This is my first solo attempt to blog about meaningful content. I will start to do this more often.

Until then. Farewell

Mikey
